The five boys from Atlantic City were arrested on Friday, Aug. 9, the city's police department said in a news release on Wednesday, Aug. 14. Officers responded to the robbery report at Tropicana Atlantic City at around 8:05 p.m.
Investigators said the man was approached by five males and one of the suspects held a large knife to his back as they demanded his belongings. The five suspects assaulted him and took his items before leaving the casino building.
Tropicana security officers and police reviewed surveillance video of the suspects. Nearby officers were given photos of the boys.
Three boys were caught while trying to run away from police on the first block of South Texas Avenue. The fourth teen was captured on the 2600 block of Atlantic Avenue.
The fifth suspect was taken into custody after trying to run away from police on the 2600 block of Arctic Avenue. While running, the teen dropped a bag with a large knife similar to the one in the robbery and the victim's items were found.
One boy was 15 years old and the other four were 14. They were held at several youth detention centers.
Each teen was charged with robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, simple assault, terroristic threats, theft, obstruction of justice, and conspiracy.
